Snapping turtle found crawling in our front yard
June 2019 - This one has us stumped! We live at least 1/4 mile of waist-high grass pasture away from any sort of water (a small spring and a couple creeks). And, we commonly find colorful (and very passive) box turtles in the fields and lawn. But this is the first snapping turtle we've spotted so far away from water. He or she was pretty good sized, plenty aggressive... and we have no idea how it could have crawled all this way. We released it into Newfound Creek at the bottom of the pasture.
