Starting spring garden lettuce indoors in dixie cups
Feburary 2019 - Wow! Who would have thought lettuce could grow this well indoors in tiny Dixie cups?
No need for Miracle-Gro. We've been adding just a dash of fish emulsion to the water once a week and keeping them under a grow lamp since mid January.
On the next nice day, we plan to transfer the 200+ Dixie cup lettuce starters outdoors into the garden (hopefully before the slugs and bugs wake up from winter). We did the same thing last year but quickly had to protect them by staking down a cut-off plastic water bottle (sort of like a cloche) over each seedling to stop voles from nibling them off at the base.
