Not much good news to report as far as our 2007 Summer crop of locally grown, chemical-free, fresh fruits and vegetables. The Easter frost froze our fruit buds; bugs devoured our trees; weeds smothered our vegetables; and the worst drought since 1897 out-weathered our best watering efforts.
We learned a lot, however, like not tilling the soil (the plots we tilled have weeds 4-foot tall while the "wild" areas right next to them have weeds barely up to our ankles) and wrapping the fruit trees with inexpensive netting to keep out the Japanese beetles.
We will be replanting fall crops soon so please check back often.
